If you’re a movie lover (and who isn’t, when you come right down to it), then we’re living in something of a golden age. As long as you have a computer and a broadband internet connection, you have everything you need to watch movies online. It doesn’t matter if your computer is a Mac or a PC or whether it runs on Windows or Linux, the technology to watch movies online is here. Not only can you watch movies over the web, you can do it for free if you know where to look.
While there are places to watch movies on the web and even to download movies to view offline, consumers need to be careful about free movie sites, since there are scammers out there as well as sites which just aren’t worth your time. Knowing how to separate the good from the bad will help you to find an online movie site which lets you watch movies, TV shows and other video free of charge – or if you’re particularly taken with the selection or service on a particular site, at least for a reasonable fee.
Speaking of fees, one thing that should be a red flag for movie lovers is a price tag which seems too high. There are some websites which are run by scammers who will ask potential subscribers for hundreds of dollars in membership fees only to disappear quickly or that simply wildly overcharge their customers for small collections of movies with low video quality.
Even though free is a price which is hard to beat, it’s still important to choose carefully since there are video sites out there which exist primarily to infect their visitors’ computers with adware, spyware and/or viruses.
While we all like the idea of watching movies online free of charge, no one wants to end up having their computer slowed down or taken out of commission by malware; especially if this malware destroys files, sends personal information to scammers or annoys you with popup ads while slowing down your computer.
Fortunately, most of the scam websites are pretty easy to spot, so you may want to focus more on what you should look for rather than what to avoid. You’ll want to find a site or service which offers as large of a selection as possible; while the free sites usually have smaller movie libraries than the commercial subscription based services, some of the free sites are much better than others.
You should also look for sites which have easy to use interfaces and that have well organized libraries of movies, TV shows and other video content. Most sites will at least organize their content by genre, so if you’re looking for a horror movie or a drama to watch, you should be able to search for the type of movie you want.
Others will have search features so if you want to watch a movie starring (for example) Peter Falk, you can do so. Watching movies online is all about convenience, so even if you’re looking at free movie websites, you’ll have a much better viewing experience if you go for a site which is well organized and professional.
